The workshop “Human Rights Justification: Methods and Legal Theories” took place in Taipei, Taiwan, on 6–7 May 2024, bringing together researchers working within the HRJust project to further develop shared approaches and strengthen collaboration across work packages.

The two-day meeting gathered 14 researchers from Academia Sinica (Institute of Information Science), National Cheng Kung University, National Taiwan University, Stockholm University, and University of Gothenburg. Participants included members of Work Packages 2, 4, and 5, enabling exchanges across different strands of the project’s research. The workshop provided an opportunity to reflect on the HRJust project’s central objectives across work packages. Discussions addressed how the project can contribute to developing suggestions relevant to EU–third country policy, while also advancing the HRJust methodological and legal theoretical framework through empirical research conducted in Taiwan, India, and Sweden.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of engagement with civil society and human rights defenders in Taiwan, reinforcing HRJust’s commitment to connecting academic research with ongoing societal and policy discussions.
