Final Dissemination of HRJust Project, in Brussels

On the 28th of May, HRJust held the Final Conference of the project, where we presented our research on the gaps in regulations and the effects on the individual human rights protection that appears when States are using Human Rights to Justify their actions and decisions. The results of the project were disseminated to public authority figures, international ärepresentatives from EU institutions, the United Nations, academia, civil society, and policymaking circles to reflect on the future of human rights in a rapidly changing global landscape.

Under the theme “Reinventing Human Rights for a Shifting World Order: What Role for the EU?” panelists presented the challenges facing the international human rights system and discussed how states, institutions, and civil society can respond to growing political, social, and legal pressures.

The morning sessions examined human rights protection in times of turmoil and reflected on lessons emerging from the HRJust research programme, while also addressing the role of the European Union in responding to fractures within the human rights system.

The afternoon focused on migration and the politics of human rights, with discussions on the future of asylum in Europe, the implementation of the EU Migration Pact, comparative perspectives from Taiwan and Europe, and the role of civil society in shaping responses to changing migration policies.

The conference provided a space for dialogue, critical reflection, and exchange across sectors and regions, highlighting both the challenges and possibilities for advancing human rights protection in the years ahead. Thank you to all speakers and participants for your contributions, and thank you to the European Commission for funding the project.
