HRJust Contributes to Discussions on Child Rights and Custody Legislation in Norway

Early November marked a period of significant engagement for HRJust, as Project Coordinator and Visiting Professor Maria Grahn-Farley was invited to Norway by the organization Forandringsfabrikken to contribute expertise on the Norwegian use of human rights justifications in child rights legislation and policy, particularly in relation to situations where children are taken into custody.

During the visit, Professor Grahn-Farley met with members of the legislative committee of the Norwegian Parliament, where the HRJust project and its research focus were presented. The meeting, which formed part of the committee’s public work, was broadcasted on national Norwegian television, bringing HRJust’s research on states use of human rights justifications to a wider public audience.

Together with Viola Breunig and Glorija Grabovac of Forandringsfabrikken, Professor Grahn-Farley met with the Children’s Ombudsman, senior legal advisors at the National Human Rights Institution, the Parliamentary Ombudsman, and a government-appointed expert legislative group.
